LULLABY OF THE DEAD
A sacred lament for the dead, asking the spirits to look after the recently deceased. It is sung by an 80 year old man from Northern Malaita, and was recorded in a hut on a salt water island during cyclone Benny. The Pacific Islands people hold that a birth must start with death.Women sing a lullaby to the child of the future and a cycle is completed as the spirits are re-incarnated in the body of the new born. This song features one of the last great sorcerers Chief Tofor, the old 'saltwater man' Toata and Pascal Oritaimae.
