MAMBERAMO
This song describes the process of learning to travel with the spirits safely.Wasi, the spirit messenger, is dangerous. He travels in the wind and can personify evil and death. The Wasi can be called upon to harm others, and the initiate must learn to utilize the spirit of the eagle to counter the danger. The music was inspired by a West Papuan canoe chant and was recorded while travelling for three weeks in a dugout canoe up the Mamberamo river, watching eagles soar overhead. This song features the voice of Sandrine, Nious (West Papua) and West Papuan nomads
