WUROMAN
A boy is finally initiated into the world of the elders by the most sacred of rituals, the sinking of the Wuroman, his soul ship. The giving and sacrifice will forever guarantee safety on water, a vital protection among island people. The learning has begun. The song is inspired by an initiation ceremony practised by the Asmat people of West Papua, where a boy becomes a man by facing the spirits and committing a bottomless canoe to the depths of the ocean. An example of a Wuroman canoe can be seen in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. This song features Pascal Oritaimae and Marie Via (Neuha Vanuatu).
