This possession ceremony was recorded in 1993, and is a powerful reminder of the profound wonderment of the culture which continues to survive in the South Pacific.We debated whether we should use what is a personal spiritual experience on the part of this old lady. But the strength and healing power inherent in it persuaded us that it should be heard as a message of hope in the continuation in Melanesia of a pagan way of life. Against all odds, these villages are holding out against the tide of westernisation and are an inspiration to us all. This song features Urunakua and the tribal singing is by members of the John Brum Movement and villagers from Neuha, one of the centres of black magic Ambrym, Vanuatu.
